Description of the project: Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya is a museum on Mahatma Gandhi’s life and work based on photographs, memorabilia etc. The museum is situated in Barrackpore, near Kolkata in West Bengal and is run by
Gandhi Memorial Trust with the financial support from Ministry of culture, Government of India.
In the month of March 2015, Gandhi Memorial Trust, at the behest of Ministry of culture, Government of India, entrusted the work of renovation of the complete museum to
Creative Museum Designers (CMD). Renovation of the museum building consists of:
- Civil renovation work
- Complete refurbishment of exhibition galleries
As the museum is running it has been decided that the renovation work will be carried out in two phases so that some part of the museum always remains open to the visitors.
Present status: The present status of the building is as follows:
- The work of phase II is in progress.
- Civil renovation work is completed.
- The gallery renovation work is to start immediately.
