Executive Summary: Through the Letters of Intent MBDA-397/2013/2358, MBDA-397/2013/2359 and MBDA-397/2013/2360 the
Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) expressed its desire to set up a Rain Museum and advised
Creative Museum Designers (CMD) to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Rain Museum, Landscaping of the Museum area and a Meteorological Observatory cum Research Laboratory which are going to be located in the same museum premises. This DPR details the facilities, infrastructure, activities and developmental parameters pertaining to the Weather Observatory, Weather Discovery cum Research Centre.
Visitors’ facilities & Infrastructural facilities of the project: The Observatory will provide the following facilities:
- Meteorological garden
- Innovation hub
- Exhibition gallery
- Processing room
- Demonstration and lecture hall
- Library
- Conference room
- Recreation cum dining hall etc.
Conclusion: This Meteorological Observatory adjoining to the Rain Museum is going to be an interactive science interpretation centre which will bring the wonder of the atmosphere right to our fingertips. Here the visitors can explore the science of climate and weather through fun and interactive exhibits like air cannon, flow tank, wind room etc. With hands-on exhibits and lessons for all levels of experience, it would be appreciated by visitors of all age groups.
