Executive Summary: Surat Science Centre was established by
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) in the year 2009. The science centre started its operation with a 12mt. dome Digital Planetarium and a Fun Science Gallery. The whole building remained empty for some time and on 5th February, 2013
Creative Museum Designers (CMD) was entrusted with the work of providing consultancy service for preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) on different exhibition galleries of the centre. The DPR was completed on 5th December, 2013.
Names of the Galleries: This DPR, developed through mutual discussion and collaboration, proposes to set up the following new galleries:
- Polar Science – The story of poles
- Entering Space – Understanding space
- The Power of Play – A children’s gallery
- Conceptions of Cosmos – Astronomy through the ages
- Fiber Facts – The story of textile
Visitors’ facilities & Infrastructural facilities of the project: The proposed science centre will also provide the following facilities:
- 3D theatre
- Planetarium
- Auditorium
- Washrooms
- Staircase and lift
- Souvenir
- Cafeteria
- Parking area etc.
Conclusion: With an experienced team of curators, engineers, artists and exhibition designers, CMD blends interpretation, innovative ideas and cutting edge technology to create learning environments that connect with people in an inspiring and exciting way. The science centre will be more effective in expanding the horizon of knowledge before the visitors. It will be able to raise the thrust for knowledge in the minds of spectators/participants for the subjects and themes that will be dealt in the centre.
