Executive Summary: In pursuant to the recommendations made in the report of High Power Committee (March, 2009), and as per subsequent directives from Ministry of Mines and Director General,
Geological Survey of India (GSI), a Geoscience Museum is decided to be established by GSI in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh for the purpose of disseminating the knowledge and information on geo-science and the geo-scientific activities of GSI to the general public of the country with the ultimate motive of developing an informed society who can create and protect the ecological balance of his own environment.
Accordingly,
Creative Museum Designers (CMD) has been assigned with the work of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for that purpose.
Names of the Galleries: The museum is proposed to have two thematic galleries. They are as follows:
- Planet Earth- its uniqueness in diversity
- Evolution of life on Earth
Visitors’ facilities & Infrastructural facilities of the project: The museum will also provide the following facilities:
- E-library
- Reception area
- Lecture hall
- Souvenir shop
- Director’s room
- Office space
- Visitors’ toilet
- Visitors’ waiting area
- Drinking water facility
- Paved pathways
- Lawn area
- Security room
- Ticket counter
- Exhibit maintenance lab
- Staff toilet
- Fire fighting and fire detection system
- Surveillance system etc.
Conclusion: This museum is envisaged as one of those channels through which GSI can communicate to the general mass of the country. It is also very important to bring forth the fact of how much resources and geological diversity is Madhya Pradesh made up of. This museum is conceived and planned particularly to highlight these to its visitors. This Geoscience Museum at Gwalior will definitely serve the purpose as it is intended for.
