Executive Summary: As a freedom fighter, as a philosopher, as a moral­ist and, above all, as a practitioner of truth, Mahatma Gandhi is relevant not for today only but for days to come. The legacy of Mahatma Gandhi is being carried on by the Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya at Barrackpore. They wanted to renovate the existing Biographical Museum and hence Creative Museum Designers (CMD) was entrusted to provide their consultancy services to draw up a comprehensive plan of complete renovation of existing galleries to construct the galleries with all the necessary infrastructure and visitors’ facilities.

Names of the Galleries: The galleries of this museum will be based on the following themes:
  • Biographical sketches of Mahatma Gandhi through mural paint­ings
  • Biographical sketches of Mahatma Gandhi through photographs and artefacts
  • Memorable events of Mahatma Gandhi through dioramas
  • Mahatma Gandhi and Eastern India through photographs
Visitors’ facilities & Infrastructural facilities of the project: This Museum will also provide the following facilities:
  • An well-equipped library
  • An audio visual room
  • Drinking water facility
  • Toilets
  • Souvenir shop
  • Cafeteria etc.
 
Conclusion: The Gandhi Memorial Trust intends to pro­mote the philosophy as propounded by Mahatma Gandhi by adopting modern display techniques. The museum will not only help to inculcate awareness among the present generations but will also play a vital role in pre­serving the heritage of Gandhiji.
