Horizontal Walking Device
Location: Surat
Working Principle
Horizontal walking device is a type of training simulator used to prepare astronauts to walk in zero gravity. This device was originally used to train astronauts before moon walk.
While walking on the Earth surface a person experience acceleration due to gravity (g) downward or to the centre of Earth. The horizontal component of g is zero. Therefore, a person walking in a floor perpendicular to the Earth surface practically walks in a zero-g condition. This training simulator enables visitors to experience walking in zero gravity condition mimicked on Earth.

Mode of Display
It consists of a system of slings to support the visitor horizontally. The angle of the slings is perpendicular and a vertical wall is used as a floor. Hence the walking area becomes zero gravity as gravity works only vertically.
